Finding the Education Library

The University of Florida’s Education Library is a favorite study spot for students that know where it is. But, not all students know how to get there or navigate the Norman Hall buildings. With the assistance of student workers, three videos were created to lead the audience on a journey to the Education Library from various points around Norman Hall and the university’s campus.
Finding the Education Library via Inner Road
Not every student knows how to get to Norman Hall, since it is located across the street from the university’s main campus. But, a student worker is ready to provide guidance. Starting from a main area on campus, this student shows an easy route to the 13th Street tunnel in front of Norman Hall.
Finding the Education Library via Norman Field
A common way for students to access the Education Library is by walking around the old Norman Hall building. Yet, this can be confusing since the courtyard can be difficult to find and the library is not in an obvious location. One of the students working at the library personally guides viewers around Norman’s buildings to the library’s front doors.
Finding the Education Library via Norman Hall
Twists and turns in old Norman’s hallways can be confusing at the best of times. And trying to find the doors to the Education Library seems a near impossible task, even when following the signs. A student worker helps viewers find the route through Norman Hall to the library.
Editing in iMovie
After video was shot from the three locations with an iPad, it was brought into iMovie for editing. Clips were chosen for clarity, cut, transitioned and then sped up to keep length to a minimum. Creative Commons licensed music was also added to each piece, creating interest and flow within the videos.
Storyboarding the Journey
Storyboarding the videos was an important first step when brainstorming the path each would take. This provided some guidelines for setting up camera angles and directing student workers. However, adjustments had to be made during filming due to lighting, doors and campus traffic.
